Mid Day Meal Scheme(MDM)



        Government of India launched the scheme in January 2003 for the children. Studying in  Primary schools (Classes I to V).
      Extended to Upper Primary schools (Classes VI to VIII) in October, 2008.
      Further extended to the children studying in centres under National Child Labour Project  (NCLP) from the Academic Year of 2010-11.

Objectives:

         To improve the nutritional and health standard of the growing children.
Elimination of class-room hunger.
 Increase in enrolment, more significantly of girls.
 Improve in daily attendance particularly of girls and children from poorer sections.
To reduce drop-outs.
Socializing among castes and empower women employment.   
  
State Government Initiatives:

 Extended to High schools (Classes IX to X) also in October, 2008 with 100% state 
funds.
With an intention to provide quality food, Mid Day meals is being served with Super 
Fine Rice to all the students in the state. w. e f., 01.01.2015 onwards.

A Separate component for Payment of honorarium @ Rs.1000 per month per cook- cum-helper was introduced from 1.12.2009. Honorarium at the above prescribed rate is being paid to cook-cum-helper. Following norms for engagement of cook-cum-helper have been made:

  1. One cook- cum-helper for schools up to 25 students.
  2. Two cooks-cum-helpers for schools with 26 to 100 students.
  3. One additional cook-cum-helper for every addition of upto 100 students.
